Our September meeting featured a captivating presentation by Germán Schroth, a seasoned fighter pilot from the Peruvian Air Force. Germán’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. As one of the few pilots to have flown both NATO and Warsaw Pact aircraft, he shared a unique perspective on aviation history.
Highlights of Germán’s Presentation:
Aircraft Experience: Germán flew a variety of aircraft during his career, including:
A-37 Dragonfly
Aermacchi MB-326
Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum
Journey Through Two Academies: Germán took us from his cadet years at the Peruvian Air Force Academy to his time at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, offering a rare insight into the training and experiences of Latin American combat pilots.
Combat Missions: He recounted his first solo flight, his rigorous training as a combat pilot, and his missions in the Peruvian jungle, which included intercepting and engaging drug smuggler aircraft.
NATO & Warsaw Pact Aircraft: Germán uniquely had the distinction of flying jets from both alliances, an experience shared by very few pilots worldwide.
We also had 13 incredible models displayed on our tables that night, showcasing the creativity and skill of our members.
